A fantastic player, Blake Leary is joining New York Freedom with NRL, Queensland Cup, and global playing experience spanning over a decade.

Leary’s talent was spotted at a young age, starting his career in 2009 at NRL side Melbourne Storm for their under 20s and was named captain in 2010 scoring 17 tries, 5 goals, and 1 field goal in 26 games, before heading to play in the NRL for North Queensland Cowboys in Townsville where he remained for three years (2011 - 2013).

It was a big year for Leary in 2014, joining Queensland Cup side Northern Pride, playing The State Of Origin reserve grade, and being awarded the Queensland Cup ‘Player of the Year’.

Such a great year saw Leary sign with NRL’s Manly Sea Eagles for a two-year deal before heading back to The Cowboys for another season in 2017.

Leary is very well regarded in Rugby League circles. Aside from playing his club games he also captained the Queensland Residents side against New South Wales in 2017 and 2018 and has worked in both youth development and community engagement roles to bring more to the game and offer something back.

Blake is joining New York Freedom from Queensland Cup Burleigh Bears where he played in 2018 before a stint in France with League 1 team Lezignan for the 2019 season.

A versatile, athletic player, Leary can be found in Second Row, Lock and at times Hooker. His skill and ability to play the ball will be something to look out for.

The squad is excited to welcome Blake for 2021.
